Camera Obscura
The Camera Obscura was from the 19th century. The Camera Obscura was a lens attached to an aperture on the side of a darkened tent or box.
They are made by cutting the sides off one side of the box and attaching tracing paper to the side we then taped up a cardboard box and creating a hole in one side. After that we taped up all the sides with black tape to ensure that no light could leak through. Then we attached a lens along with a piece of cardboard to ensure the lens was the right distance away.
I found it difficult to attach the lens at the right distance as it was hard to judge when you couldn't see t through the camera, I found it easy attaching the tracing paper. Cutting the hole was also challenging as it was hard to be neat and exact.

SLR Camera
A single-lens-reflex camera is a camera that typically uses a mirror and prism system that permits the photographer to view through the lens and see exactly what will be captured. It has A, S, P, M functions .
- P is programme function when the camera makes all the exposure decisions
-S is shutter priority where you choose the shutter and the camera chooses apature
-A is apature priority where you choose the aputure and the camera chooses the shutter speed
- M is manual where you chooses all the functions

Composition |
|
Composition is the way in which things are arranged or put together, this can apply to all visual arts. In this project I aimed to explore composition and experiment with it. In this task we were given a grid with different shapes and patterns and had to recreate them using things we found in around us, we learnt about using different angles and zooms to create different compositions.
Shutter Speed
Shutter speed is the speed at which the shutter closes. A fast shutter speed creates a shorter exposure — the amount of light the camera takes in —while a slow shutter speed gives the photographer a longer exposure. This can be used to create photos that are blurred and out of focus ( slow shutter speed ) and pictures that are sharp and in focus ( fast shutter speed ).
Natsumi Hayashi
Natsumi Hayashi is a Tokyo base photographer who uses fast shutter speed to capture images of herself in urban settings showing her is particular positions and poses that make her appear to be levitating. She usually shoots with 1/500th of a second or faster shutter speed, here are some examples of her work;
|
I like that way Natsumi Hayashi uses fast shutter speed to create images with models that appear to be floating. I love the way she uses the positioning of the models and props for the photos to make them looks as though they are carrying out everyday tasks, this is powerful as the pictures are seemingly ordinary activities but through the use of fast shutter speed they become extraordinary.

Fast Shutter Speed First Response
These were my three most successful pictures from the shoot. What went well is that the people in the photos look like they are floating and they are mostly in focus. I achieved this by using a 1/800 shutter speed and by making sure the camera was in focus before taking the pictures.
What I could've improved on was having more variety of shots and using more angles to create this variety to make the whole shoot more diverse and interesting.

Slow Shutter Speed
Slow shutter speed allows more light into the camera for longer this creates blurring if their is a moving object in the frame.
We were inspired by Francesca Woodman, she uses black and white photography and slow shutter speed to create ghost like images. Here are some examples of her work;

I like the way that Woodman uses low shutter speed to create eery, ghostlike, haunting images that have impact of grab your attention. Through the use of slow shutter speed she blurs the models in her picture adding mystery to the images as the faces are often hidden or blurred.
In this shoot we were looking at slow shutter speed we used speeds of 1/4 of a second to create a blurred effect of moving parts in our photographs.
I then chose my favourite pictures and edited them into black and white to match the style of Francesca Woodman
What went well was that my people were blurred and the backgrounds were quite focused mirroring the work of Francesca Woodman. I could have improved by taking more full body shots to show a wider range of images.
Slow Shutter Speed Second Response
In my second response I was aiming to take more full body shots to show a wider range of images. These were what I got;
These were my favourite images from the second response that I feel met my targets from the first response.
Aperture
Aperture is the hole where light is let through into the camera, it is measured in F numbers, a high F number means a small hole and a narrow depth of field making the background focused, a low F number means a wider hole and a wide depth of field making the background blurred .
1st Response
F4.5

F4.5
|
What went well was that I had a good blurred background and a good focused centre of my images but I needed to take more with a higher aperture and a focused background
2nd Response
These were my favourite low aperture photos they were all take with an aperture of 4.5.
ISO
ISO is the sensitivity of the film / digital sensor in your camera. It comes as numbers with a low ISO of around 100 to high ISO's like 2,000. The higher the number is the better suited the camera is to low light settings. The one disadvantage to having a high ISO is that the pictures can become blurred or even have noise in them, this is when coloured pixels appear in the shadows of pictures.
Andy Warhol Portraits
Andy Warhol was born on the 6th of August 1928. He was an American artist, film director, and producer who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, advertising, and celebrity culture during the 1960s, and a variety of media e.g. painting, silkscreening, photography, film, and sculpture.
This is Andy Warhol and some examples of his work.
This was my response to the Andy Warhol brief, by taking portraits of my subject and using photoshop to create contrast in the images.
I think I was successful in creating portraits that show contrast and show everyday things in a new way but I could've improved by taking a wider range of pictures of different subjects.
Mixed Black and White and Colour Image
In this task I was using photoshop to create an image with both black and white and colour aspects in the photo, thee were the steps I took;
This was my completed image. This was a challenge for me as I was at home and working with software that worked in a different way.
Layered Portrait
In this task I had to use photoshop to create a layered portrait.
These were the steps I took;

This was the completed image. I found this task challenging as I was doing it at home with a different version of photoshop and figuring out how to do it alone.
Light Painting - Micheal Bosanko
Bosanko's portfolio contains photographs using one single exposure to record a scene. While the exposure remains open, light is used in a variety of ways to create the images. The photographs are real, and free from photo manipulation, layers or special effects of any kind.
For this task which I completed at home we needed a dark room and a torch. By using a slow shutter speed I was able to capture the light moving in the image.
2nd Response
In this response I was at school so I was able to access more of the correct resources for this task and I think the images were much more successful. I was able to create different patterns with guidance of peers rather than being alone.
I then chose the images that were in a sequence and turned them into GIF's
The presentation of your weebly is excellent and demonstrates excellent understanding of composition and layout.
Your Aperture is excellent and demonstrates your strong understanding of photographic technique. Your photoshop work is good and shows a developing understanding of photoshop technique however your portrait giff is not in focus and needs to be redone. Also you need to create a figure moving giff look at the examples created by other members in the class. Your light painting giffs are excellent and work really well.
Double check all of your explanations to ensure that you explain tasks and processes thoroughly. You also need to expand your analysis of the artists going more in depth about their visual practice and how it relates to your work.
Continue to experiment and practice the techniques introduced during foundation. Make sure to persevere with tasks until you get the required outcome.
